Tribute

About 3 years ago our my side of the family decided to start a 4th of July camping tradition at Bear Lake. We started this because two of my way cool sisters and their way cool hubbys bought into a way cool campground, which makes it way easy to go camping up there. So, because in the past I have neglected to show these way cool relatives of mine, here are the amazing Lana and Bill in front of "The Man Cave".

Thanks for letting us all come crash your party every year!
(There ya go, you two! :b )

Tough Job

So, being the nice mom that I am, I went ahead and shared my flu-bug with Big T. He started up on Saturday, and finally by yesterday (Tuesday) he seemed to be doing well enough to go to school today.
Big T really, really, really does not enjoy going to school. Every night before bed he says, "No school tomorrow, mom?" Then I tell him, "Yes, you have school tomorrow." And then he whines a big "Ohhh." And yes, we go through this EVERY night. Big T is one thing for sure, he's consistant! So after days that he doesn't have school or when he's sick it's really hard for him to get back in to the school "thing" again.
He's actually pretty compliant when getting ready for school. He does whine a lot, but he'll get dressed and go through all the motions alright. You just know he really does not want to go. So this morning after all the whining and him trying to convince me that he's still sick, we drove him to school. He got out of the car and came up to the passenger window where Rojita was sitting. He had his head down, then he cocked his eye up to see me and there it was... the biggest frown you'd ever seen. And then he began to cry.
It was the saddest face I'd ever seen. It all but broke my heart. I rolled down the window and told him he'd be okay and that we'd go to Grandma's after school. He just gave me a sad "okay, mom." and off he went.
So all day I just keep picturing this sad little guy moping off to class. What I really wanted to do was jump out of the van, grab him and tell him he never had to go to school again. But of course, for the good of all, I just told him to buck up and it would all be alright. Oh, sometimes it's so hard being the tough guy.

I hate being sick (cough, cough)

Yes, my title says it all. I've been in bed since Tuesday night, sicker (sniff, sniff) than I ever remember, and it's crap! I haven't had the flu for a couple of years, in fact I usually get a little sniffle or two and then shake it off. So, I guess I had all those years (cough, cough) of backed up sickness that I had to catch up on. The clouds started to part last night, and this morning I got myself up, showered (first time in 3 days) and drove the kids to school, even with a 100.2 fever. Because compared to the last few days, 100.2 feels great! (hack, wheeze, hack)

Okay, I just took my temperature, it's 100.1. Yea. Down one tenth. I had planned for weeks to go ice skating (sniff, sniff) with Loobey and her 1st grade class today, but somehow sliding around on a thick piece of ice (brrrrrrr!) did not sound the least bit fun today. So here I am sitting in my bed, feeling sorry for myself (cough, cough) and hoping that by posting this blog I will get sympathy from you all. It's true, I'm not ashamed to say it, I need sympathy!

A special thanks to my dear Lynnetty for bringing me some yummy soup yesterday. (Ahhhhh!) In fact I'm going to go finish it up here in a few minutes! (sniff, sniff) Thank you, thank you. I'm just sorry you had to see me. (CK told me I should take a picture of myself and post it here, then I'm sure to get lots of sympathy! Not on your life, Bucky!)

I just keep praying that I don't pass it along to everyone else in my house. AHHHHH!!! I'll keep you posted. So, for now (cough, cough), feel free to send warm wishes my way (sniff) and I'll be here in my bed, if anyone needs me.

Supai 2008

I blogged a while ago about how last Spring CK and Rojita went with a group from Rojita's school on a trip to Havasupai down in the Grand Canyon. Well, yesterday we finally picked up the pictures of their trip. The group took along a professional photographer who put together a CD of pictures and since Rojita changed school we finally made time to go get them. They are amazing! These pictures were all taken during the time they were there. You almost need to click on them to get a nice up close look at their beauty.

These two are pictures of, I think, Mooney Falls.

This is Havasui Falls...

This is Rojita playing Tarzan...

They did tons of hiking, which I'm so sad that I missed out on. (That was a joke.)

Some of the men that went as guides, which were mostly teachers and administrators who have been going for many, many years, knew the "sweet spot" for cliff jumping. A bunch of looney's if you ask me.

Here are two of the most gorgeous shots taken. No wonder this is such a looked forward to trip.

The photographer stayed up most of the night to get this shot of the movement of the stars across the sky. Notice Alfed Hitchcock's profile.

The school has been doing this trip for about 25-ish years now. The main teacher who plans this trip every year retired at the end of last year's school year, but I hear they are still going to keep going. It's a great incentive for the kids to keep their citizenship grades high. If you ask Rojita, it was worth keeping her at that school for that year just for the trip!

Time Warp

I wrote a few month ago that this year Rojita has Bro. Williams for Seminary. The same wonderful Bro. Williams that I had in high school. The other day Rojita and friends were waiting at the Seminary building for me to pick them up, so I was able to go in and chat with him for a while. Truly one of the greatest men ever. When you talk to him, he acts like you are the most important person in the world and whatever you say is so interesting and wonderful. He's great for the self-esteem.

Have you ever watched "The Emperor's New Groove", (one of my favorites), when Yzma is talking to Kuzco and Kuzco isn't hearing a word she's saying. He's just thinking the whole time about how incredible old Yzma is and "what is that green stuff stuck in between her teeth?" Well, for a while there that was me listening to Bro. W. I was thinking, "Wow, when did he get wrinkles. And when did his red hair turn gray? Have I really been out of school that long!?" I know that's not the nicest thing but it was like being in a time warp, and all of a sudden everything got older when just yesterday they weren't. Wow. Okay, there's my brain at work.

It was also a little strange going back into the old Seminary building. But for the most part not much there changed.

I truly could have majored in Seminary if there was such a thing! Those years are where I truly gained my testimony of the Gospel. I love that Rojita loves it just as much as I did.

Tree Trimmings

It seems every few years the city sends out the tree cutting company to trim all the trees up and get them out of the power lines. They just finished doing our street this last week and I have to laugh every time I see them. Whenever I see their trucks I will always remember what happened 3 years ago when they came.

We had not been in our house very long and were in the process of fixing up the yard. The backyard had two huge maple trees that engulfed the yard. When you walked out on the deck all you saw were the heads of these huge trees. They had blocked the sunlight from coming in the yard so well, that most of the grass had successfully been killed off. So, we decided to cut one tree way back and just have the other one removed completely.

About this time the "tree people" came a knocking on the door to let me know that they would be in our neighborhood that week to trim back the trees. I told them that was fine and, jokingly, knowing my request was not what they were allowed to do seeing how I wasn't paying them, I told them that they could just just go ahead and trim my the North tree right down to the ground. (ha, ha) To which they just smiled and went on their merry little way.

The week passed and they came and nicely trimmed up our trees and finished down the road as well. A few days later the "tree people" showed up on my front door step asking me what the problem was that I called about. I didn't know what they were talking about to which they kept saying, "Well, are you sure there isn't something, you sounded pretty upset." Again, I really didn't know what they were talking about. I then saw them walk around to my backyard for a second, then off the went again.

A few days later, my neighbor two doors down came by and told me of the horrible thing that had happened to her. A few days earlier she had come home from work, she was standing in her kitchen looking out at her backyard and HER BEAUTIFUL HUGE SHADE TREE WAS GONE! Yes, the one that was on the North side of her yard! She said she even had to call the "tree people" a few times for them to finally come out and then they apologized saying it must have been a misunderstanding, and gave her a voucher to replace the tree with a new one.

My eyes were nearly popping out of my head the entire time she was telling me about this. I realized that somehow the wrong address was written down for the house that a certain lady asked to have her entire tree removed. (oops.) At that time I didn't think it would help her or my situation any for me to bring up the fact that I had requested my tree removed, so I simply gave her the "Oh, I'm so sorry. I can't believe they would do that!" To which I truly was sorry and truly couldn't believe they would do, and just left it at that.

So now, whenever I see those trucks come around I just have to shake my head and remember to not make any special requests, no matter how far fetched they may seem.
