Tree Trimmings

It seems every few years the city sends out the tree cutting company to trim all the trees up and get them out of the power lines. They just finished doing our street this last week and I have to laugh every time I see them. Whenever I see their trucks I will always remember what happened 3 years ago when they came.

We had not been in our house very long and were in the process of fixing up the yard. The backyard had two huge maple trees that engulfed the yard. When you walked out on the deck all you saw were the heads of these huge trees. They had blocked the sunlight from coming in the yard so well, that most of the grass had successfully been killed off. So, we decided to cut one tree way back and just have the other one removed completely.

About this time the "tree people" came a knocking on the door to let me know that they would be in our neighborhood that week to trim back the trees. I told them that was fine and, jokingly, knowing my request was not what they were allowed to do seeing how I wasn't paying them, I told them that they could just just go ahead and trim my the North tree right down to the ground. (ha, ha) To which they just smiled and went on their merry little way.

The week passed and they came and nicely trimmed up our trees and finished down the road as well. A few days later the "tree people" showed up on my front door step asking me what the problem was that I called about. I didn't know what they were talking about to which they kept saying, "Well, are you sure there isn't something, you sounded pretty upset." Again, I really didn't know what they were talking about. I then saw them walk around to my backyard for a second, then off the went again.

A few days later, my neighbor two doors down came by and told me of the horrible thing that had happened to her. A few days earlier she had come home from work, she was standing in her kitchen looking out at her backyard and HER BEAUTIFUL HUGE SHADE TREE WAS GONE! Yes, the one that was on the North side of her yard! She said she even had to call the "tree people" a few times for them to finally come out and then they apologized saying it must have been a misunderstanding, and gave her a voucher to replace the tree with a new one.

My eyes were nearly popping out of my head the entire time she was telling me about this. I realized that somehow the wrong address was written down for the house that a certain lady asked to have her entire tree removed. (oops.) At that time I didn't think it would help her or my situation any for me to bring up the fact that I had requested my tree removed, so I simply gave her the "Oh, I'm so sorry. I can't believe they would do that!" To which I truly was sorry and truly couldn't believe they would do, and just left it at that.

So now, whenever I see those trucks come around I just have to shake my head and remember to not make any special requests, no matter how far fetched they may seem.

That, my friend, is HILARIOUS!!!! Honestly, isn't that the thing that only happens in sitcoms? Oh, I am so glad you shared.

I think that is the greatest story ever, but actually something that would only happen to you! Perhaps a lesson learned, make sure when requesting things done that we are very specific. And I'm sure in time, when your wonderful neighbor is able to look our her kitchen window and see her new beautiful shade tree all grown back she wont be too angry. Oh oops, buy that time she probably wont be around. Just kidding.

That really is funny, although I feel bad for your neighbor. You could send that one in to Readers Digest. They pay money for those stories. Although they didn't think my story was very funny (my son said when he gets a dog if it runs fast he'll name him "Lightning", if it jumps high he'll name him "Thunder". I asked what if it doesn't do either one very well, he said then I'll just name him "Bruce".) Oh well.

That's the saddest but funniest story! Too bad for her that it will take so long to grow back. Is she old? yikes! Don't feel too guilty though, just because someone can't write down the correct address! You crack me up!
