For the past month I've been reminding CK that Valentines is fast approaching. Every few days I'll end our phone conversations with the number of days left till V-day. Why you may ask? Well, it all began 17 years ago.
It was our very first Valentine's Day as a married couple. That year V-Day fell on a Sunday. CK had to work the Saturday before and didn't get home till 11:30 p.m. When he got home we started to talk about this and that and for some reason I mentioned Valentines. I'll never forget the look of terror that came across CK's face. Eyes wide, face white. So, here it was 11:30 p.m. the night before Valentines, which, like I said, happened to be on a Sunday which meant he had 30 minutes to figure something out. So, he said, "Uhhhh, I'll be back in a minute." Out the door he ran. A few minutes past midnight he came storming through the door, happy as a pumpkin.
The next morning I awoke to a single plastic wrapped rose that he purchased from...wait for it....wait for it.... CHEVRON! Yes, the gas station. The only place he could find open that had anything remotely Valentinesy. And boy was it very remotely Valentinesy.
So from then on I decided that if I wanted CK to remember special occasions I would remind him. Valentines, Anniversaries, even Christmas. Birthday's, however, are a different story. It just so happens that we have the exact same birthday, only he's three years older. So fortunately for him, he doesn't have a hard time remembering that one.
Since then CK has had a perfect record on remembering all these events and we're BOTH happy!
By the way, to my sweet CK: If everyone were as happily married as you and I, the world would know Heaven like we do!

Oh!!! so funny, and cute. You have a great husband Heather. I usually have to remind my husband too. You guys are lucky to have each other. What a cute couple !!! Love ya both
haha, that is hilarious. i'm always trying to make brandon be thoughtful and he hates it...now i just tell him i want to go on a date. i love that he went to the chevron...haha, that's a great story
That is so funny! At least he gets you an item. Patrick usually just tells me "Well, I was going to stop at the store and buy you something but I didn't know if there was any money in the account" Nice cop out huh?
You know, when push comes to shove I really don't care about Vday that much, even though I want to and would love that it be special. I am guessing that you are a lot like me in that department. I think I told you about our disappointing first Vday back when Joe blogged it but it has given me something to hold over Joe's head every year so that we can seem like a romantic couple. It is so good that we finally came to terms with Vday by just going and doing the same thing every year. Oddly it makes us a much happier, romantic couple because we like to do the same mundane thing together and love each other more than the year before for doing it. Much like you and CK I would suppose. My guess is that if we lived by each other, CK and Joe would have a lot in common. (after us of course)
Oh what a cutie that CK is!!!! Not a real fan of Vday, i think it puts tons of pressure on each other to do something for the other. My thought is we should be doing those thoughtful things all year, not just one day a year. I know corny huh! You guys really do have the greatest relationship ever, you're a good example to everyone.
I remember that story from when Matt and I came to ask you two to take that survey of Matt's. I thought that it was hilarious, at least he's remembered each year now (with your help!)
cute your great
